On Juicing and Nekter

I was just asked to write a story about the whole juicing and detox trend by my HerCampus editor and it got me thinking about a great new blog post! I was lucky to experience the best juices & smoothies in SoCal over Spring Break at a new juice-bar chain there called Nekter. [Yes, I am seriously hoping they bring this chain over to Atlanta and Boston and wherever I end up after school, ASAP].

They make their juices and smoothies from fruit, vegetables, and an awesome yogurt-like base made from the nut milk of a variety of nuts: almond, cashew, you name it. My favorite? Their Acai bowls. Served with granola and beautiful fresh fruit, neither my dad nor I could resist. It was the most incredible breakfast two days in a row.

I also tried their famous "The Greenie" veggie juice. This seems to be the popular option among the post-yoga-class customers. Here's are a couple of their recipes...make it at home, it's so easy and so dang good, without fail, every single time. Enjoy!

Nekter’s “The Greenie”

What do you need?
Parsley, spinach, kale, celery, cucumber, lemon and apple
What is it so great?
It’s nutrient-rich, appetite-suppressant, and a just a little bit sweet thanks to the apple!

Nekter’s Peanut Butter Acai Bowl

What do you need?
Acai, bananas, dates, peanut butter and raw vanilla bean cashew nutmilk. Blend together and top with hemp seed granola and sliced bananas.
What is it so great?
This one tastes like a little bit of heaven, not to mention you get a huge variety of nutrients and protein at the same time. What’s not to love?
